Rings for inspiring hearts. And for training imaginations. And the composition of the work: vocabulary, cadences in sentences even in the prose – is, to me, unsurpassed.
Narnia for bringing it back through the wardrobe to home. It is more directly relatable, to me, at least.
Other parts of CS Lewis (Space/Ransom Trilogy, at peak) engage more with my intellectual mind. I mean, it’s a conversation happening in my conscious mind in real time. Tolkien opens gates to me, and if I go on the thought journey my intellect is participating. Or I accidentally find myself pondering themes and characters in Lord of the Rings.
